1885 Low Wall 22 LR - Uberti or Cimarron version's

Can anyone speak to the accuracy/reliability of the 1885 Low Wall 22LR Uberti or Cimarron model's accuracy and reliability?

It seems like a good introductory model (and price) to introduce people to the single shot game.

Do not buy without a range test.  A friend ordered a Uberti with double set triggers.
Beautiful looking rifle.  After months of waiting one finally arrived from Italy.  Took
it to the range and rifle would not fire at all.  Firing pin wasn't hitting cartridge.  After
trouble shooting rifle, found excessive head space.  Send rifle to service center and
after months of waiting still wasn't right.  Local gunsmith got rifle to shoot but after
trying different brands of ammo it wouldn't make a good plinker.  Maybe he got a
lemon but I wouldn't buy one without a trip to the range or money back guarantee.

Hello Chris,
You may want to take a look at the 1885 offered by Winchester/Miroku. Bud's has a pretty decent price. I've been shooting the "game" with mine and do not embarrass myself.
I do have a CPA Benchrest rifle on the way, but this rifle was good for me to cut my teeth with and get me hooked.
Take Care,
Scott

I'm sure a 1000 bucks will buy a decent original one with enough left over for a reline.  That would be my first choice.

My opinion the only mass produced modern reproduction Low Wall worth buying is the Winchester /Mikoku.

It's a nice rifle, Number of them at our club shoots that do very well. Can't say the same about the other imported reproductions

Like CHawk said if you can find original and re-line it's a better option  if the gun has a rough bore, sometimes you can find a bargin the collectors don't want

As example my relined 1894 Marlin 38/40 is a lot more rifle in every way than any of the new production Marlins.  It did finish up costing more than a new Marlin.

I bought a Uberti low wall in .22 lr just a couple of months ago and had the exact opposite results as cheatin_charlie. The action locks up nice and tight, and the firing pin is too long. It seemed to group well enough, but the firing pin indents were really deep and occasionally marked by a black smudge. Seems to suggest that the pin was sometimes piercing the case   Shocked. I didn't see any sign of gases escaping around the block. After reading the previous post about poor head space it sounds like I should be thankful I didn't have brass fragments flying back in face.

It is back at the dealers and they will hopefully be reshaping the firing pin. As I said it grouped well enough with SK, so I am hoping to get it back soon. It also has some really beautiful wood under that red stain they use.

One_shot

Edit: I also have a small frame Martini which cost me half the price, came with a tang sight, and has the best trigger and is the most accurate .22 lr I own.

I bought one, and had to file the extractor so it wouldn't bind on the empties. Then I had a liner installed because accuracy was so poor. Afterwards, I had the barrel cut back to match the length of the insert. I also scraped off the plastic stock coating and applied an oil finish. Now, it looks much better and it's a good shooter.
I'll never buy another Uberti product.
