Quigley Update

Got back from the Quigley late Monday eve and all I can say is that it was a great shoot and well conducted. The fellow that had the unfortunate accident is going be fine.
I was surprised and disappointed to read all the things being written about the shooter and the wrath he has taken not only here but also on other websites.  I'm not trying to start any more discussion on it and am glad that the other thread has morphed to safety.
But it reminded me when about 5 years ago, a well known west coast BPCR and schuetzen shooter blew his highwall apart at a schuetzen match.  It was done because of a double charge.  This shooter was very experienced but made a mistake and it was written up in the Journal.  Although very unfortunate these things will happen in this sport .  Black powder and smokeless will always be used together as long as our sport remains alive but we must continue to express safety.  Bob Saathoff and going back again next year.

I got back here today after the Quigley.  Visited some friends along the way up and back.  The countryside was spectacular, the weather was fine, the people were great and the shoot was a blast (to coin a phrase).

I think any sporting event that has been going on for almost a quarter of a century and involves hundreds of competitors each time would have its full statistical share of misfortunes.  Relatively few shooting matches have a 100% usage of reloaded ammunition; in most matches besides buffalo rifle gong shoots and Shuetzenfests, many or most of the competitors shoot factory, military issue or rimfire ammo.  But I've never felt threatened or endangered on the line at any shooting event.

I'm going back next year too, if I can move at all!
