Bob, Bob Roberts here, we met at DCF&SA on the black powder range a few weeks ago. In fact I may have been shooting a #10 40-70 '82 Maynard. I believe I might have a spare thick base 73 shell holder. I will dig into the parts box tomorrow and see if my memory has not failed me. Will let you know - Bob

I got mine from CH4d a while ago.  I believe it is the same as the 50 BMG, but call them and they will know.

Bob, Just checked and I do have a spare Maynard 73 shell holder I can let go. The only fly in the soup is that when Jake Simmons made a half dozen of them for me a number of years ago he made all for the 35-30 '73 shell and the opening for the body of that shell is at .402. You would need to have someone open it up to .450 or whatever the base of your 40-70 '73 requires. An easy and quick task for a machinist, or I suppose it could be done with a small grinder bit and patience. Let me know if this will help - bobr@robertstock.com - Bob
