I thought #5's have a wiping rod.
Could it be a #4 Perfection?
I haven't seen a lever like that, but I don't get around much.

Parts gun. Only thing that's still original is the action.

This was on an article talking about the history of the Ballard rifle on the Marlin forum.
Could be a bad example. You might think someone would notice after two years.

Ballards may be weaker,

Couple things. First off that "forum" is extinct, and hasn't been updated in any way for years. Second, the picture is one I've seen in many places, and was some sort of "collector card" type thing done by a company that didn't know guns from baseball players. Every time I see it with the description of a Ballard pacific I laugh.

And whoever is posting things on that forum is just "googling" stuff around the intenet and regurgitating what he finds here and there. Little snippets of various articles and books, which he puts together as if it's gospel. Sometimes OK, sometimes laughingly off base!
Here's one that would lead someone to believe that only Pope made aftermarket custom barrels, or target guns based on old Ballards.

You mean mine isn't original? It's very old and has a wiping rod.

A shameless way of showing off my Pacific Smiley

Nicer looking than most customized Pacifics Frank! I'd be proud to have one like that!

Thank you, Vall.

I bought it about 10 years ago out of Redding, CA. I wish I knew who built it but, the dealer that I bought it from, had no idea. It's the one in 40/63 that I talk about.

Looks like there's enough wood there to file down to original specs, Frank.  Smiley

It's nice that whoever built it retained the wiping rod and thimbles. And the pistol grip to straight frame is a great transition! Most seem to miss it when they do a PG on a SG frame.

Joe,
I'd do that but, I'd still have that darn wood. It's not right either so, why bother Sad
