Old Zimmerstutzen Made in Windsheim

I have an old rifle that I need some information on.  Can someone tell me what I actually have.  I would also like to know how old it is.  Can't find anything about a CH Heidingsfelder from Windsheim.  Looks like a barrel insert on the end.  Also how do these work?  I got it from an estate and the family said it was brought back from WW2 but who knows.  I know a back sight is missing, is anything else?  I am asking lots of questions and thanks for any info you have.

Scroll down on the left side to this:

ZS-loading mechanisms

i believe the 4/35 was the date that it was made or final proof.

Thanks for the info.  Does the thumb rest look normal or has part of it been knocked off?  Were the tall rear sight as unique as the rifle or can a standard one be purchased?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Looks like the thumb rest might have been reworked a bit. I'd expect it might have gotten damaged, and this was a way to clean it up.

Regarding the the sight, there are a lot of different mounting systems for the sight base to receiver. You can either have Bill Loos make one or do a search on Ebay and hope you can find something close. Bill also sells used sights, when he gets them, mainly on Ebay.

Your thumb rest has been broken off and sanded, most stocks have a added piece to the main stock for the thumb rest. You can see the parting line on my stock, if you look close. Yours could be repaired by a good stock maker.

Thanks for all the info.  This rifle was described as an Italian target rifle.  I will go back and see what made them think it was Italian.  Can anyone give an opinion on value?
