Metford Rifling and Paper Patching

My first post after joining a while back. I have a Sharps with a Metford rifled barrel. I haven't been able to shoot it because the block is too loose in the receiver cavity. I'm close to having a new block made so have started exploring how to load for it. I've been told the Metford rifling works best w/paper patch bullets. I haven't completely figured out the search function on this board so my results for either Metford or paper patching have been sketchy. Where should I look for info on both? Thanks,
Joe B.

Joe,

Depends on which metford rifling - early style or segmental.  Segmental was made to shoot dirty with PP.  Actually, thge Brits almost exclusively used PP...

Try using google search using ASSRA and what you're looking for.

Joe,
I have your breech block halfway done.  the medford barrel was done by Ron Snover. I had a Snover medford barrel on a high wall, grooved bullets would lead sometimes so I shot Paper patch in it and it shot well with black, never tried smokeless. Joe could you PM your address again, I have the D. S. Cole frame ready to ship.

No sir, this is not an original Sharps, but a reproduction built from castings. I purchased from a friend of a friend. See rodneys post below - barrel is a Ron Snover product.
