Remington Hepburn Target Model B

Here a neat little shooting outfit I bought approx. a year ago.  It's a Remington Hepburn Target Model B Rifle chambered in .40-70 SS; 28" half-octagonal barrel with a perfect bore.  The rifle has its factory double-set triggers, cheek piece, mid-range vernier tang sight and windgauge front sight.

Best of all, the rifle was complete with a period shooters case with cartridges, brass, reloading tool, re- de-capper, brass sizing dies, wad cutter, muzzle rest, etc.

Thanks for the comments guys.  I think a package like this comes around once every 10 years or so.  So many things normally get separated, lost or thrown away.  This set is a keeper.

Of course, after I recovered from the swoon, I immediately began looking for something to nitpick. Nothing, absolutely nothing, but beautiful. Maybe lose the plastic bags in the box, but I'd bet if it was mine (swoon again), I'd overlook that detail, too. What a magnificent thing it must be in the flesh.  Pat

Joe,

Absolutely a great find. How rare to find a Hepburn in such fine condition, plus all the tools and period case. Treasure it!

Beautiful rifle & kit. Let us know if how it performs if you shoot it.

Great find.

Just need to fill that ammo block up with loaded cases and head out to the range.

Sure is in great original condition.

Too bad I cannot caress it for a while.

Joe,
What are the two items in the case that are cloth with string wrapped around them?

Absolutely beautiful rifle and set.

Hello Kirk ... I am not sure, but think those little cloth pads were meant as a sort of padding for the case.  My other guess is that they're "recoil pads" for the buttplate but that doesn't make a lot of sense.

I wish I had someone to ask.  This cased rifle came from Michigan but the shop that had it on consignment didn't answer my emails asking for additional details or the consignees contact details.

Joe, send it all down to me. I'll monkey around with it and when I find out what those things are (say in ten years), I'll post the report here for everybody to see. Pat
