Anyone seen a ingot like this before and if so what is it and content? It is harder then lead and guessing close to a 63/37 solder for hardness. The indents are from round ball comparison tests to lead and solders.

It looks like the General Electric logo to me. I was thinking a counter weight (for a large motor) or solder ingot but that was my original guess as well. I wish to find out if there is any other non cast bullet material and % of whatever in them before I buy any. Anyone got a spectral analysis machine handy Smiley

Could be an ingot of babbit.  Read all about it here (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);

Good luck with it, Bob

I second taking it to the scrap yard to have it tested. The problem with lead alloys is just because its sold as a particular alloy doesn’t mean it is in specific proportions. Terms like Linotype, monotype, and wheel weight mean little, as there are many proprietary alloys for each. I have seen at least 6 different recipes for linotype.
