	It looks like a really ham-handed attempt to recreate Stevens colors. If he had sent it to CPA it could have been done much better. Now all it’s fit for is a nice hot dipped barrel and some wood sanded down about a 1/32” shy of the metal. 40 Rod

	cyanide has long been a very dangerous standard material in old style color "casing"

	Hello RoyB, Yes it doesn't need anything but the colours polished off with very fine grit cloth. Originally it may have been case hardened, a file test on the metal somewhere out of site will tell you that, If the file skids off then it was hardened and would have to be annealed before re-case hardening it. Very few people do case hardening as it was done on this action, it would have to be cyanide dipped to get the true colours like the original. Harry.
