When do you rub the graphite on the paper patch bullet? Thanks for your answer, Hank45

I agree with Gert. No need to lube the bullet or the patch. Just put a grease cookie in between two card discs under the bullet. That's the way virtually all original PP bullet cartridges were made. Anything applied to the bullet or patch may cause the patch to fail to separate from the bullet upon firing, and that spoils accuracy. Cry

I would think after applying the paper to the bullet. Wait a minute, will graphite allow the paper to separate from the bullet after leaving the barrel?    Huh  Okay, the graphite should go between the bullet and the paper. Apply the graphite to the bullet then roll the paper on and graphite the outside of the patched bullet.

So, this graphite application will lessen friction in the bore that causes wear and will allow the paper to separate from the bullet in flight.

I like the idea.  Smiley If it wasn't so much work and messy messy messy I'd give it a try myself.

The LRML guys are big on rolling the PP bullets on an oiled stamp pad just before loading,  and many of the original military ctgs using PP bullets had the whole exposed bullet dipped in wax of some sort.   Most likely the latter was for weather-proofing.
I kind of like Johnson's Paste Wax on PP bullets. Doesn't seem to make them stick to the bullets.  I think the graphite idea was one of Paul Matthews' notions.

You could try it and let us know.  Most put nothing at all on the patch.  I have not tried putting anything on the patches, but might try one day.  If it would result in a lower velocity SD then it might be worth it.

"you could try and let us know"..I spent 1 1/2 shooting seasons shooting nothing but paper-patch bullets in a Shillen barreled Borchardt Hornet & Ruger No.1 222Rem.  Most of those bullets were tumble coated in moly.
