Value of 308403 Ideal

Print Post
A friend has picked up an Ideal 308403 mold which is the 30cal springfield Pope 167gr because it was only $15. As I am semi-interested in it myself I was wondering if anyone could help place a fair valuation. I have not seen it yet but it is supposedly in very good condition. Just looking for a general range since I haven't been following these.

Thank you,
Charles

Some where around $100.00 in my opinion if in excellent condition. I have both the 311403 and 308403. The bullets are the same. They worked well in a 30-30 that I built for my brother on a Ruger #1.

I've seen a lot of these single cavity molds go for <$80 on Ebay in very good condition.

308403 & probably cut with the same cherry as 311403 is not just another single cavity mould.  I think Laurie's evaluation is a fair one.  Buying one at $15 is an incredible bargain.  As observed, it does very well in the 30-30 and in any other .30 or .31 with a relatively slow twist.  It shoots tight groups in my 8.15x16R, .308 bore & .314 groove.

How do you think it would work in a 1 in 12" twist?

I have read somewhere the base band on 308403 is slightly tapered to make seating by hand easier and the base band on 311403 is straight . Perhaps Falling Block could check his and see if I am right.
It may be just an age difference.

I have shot this in my M-54 Winchester in 30-30 (12" twist) and it does very well.  Just keep at Schuetzen velocities.

I have 311403 and the base band is straight.
