It costs nothing to try the suggestions offered here, you may get a surprise. I have tried resting the barrel of my CPA from just in front of the receiver all the way to the muzzle. To do this I removed the fore end just to make sure it was not having an effect. At the end of this testing my best results with my 45/90 using 77 gr of 2f Wano and a 520 gr bullet was when the barrel was rested 5 or 6" from the muzzle. Set up this way the rifle will shoot under 1.5 MOA on a decent day.
Mike.

One of our monthly matches here in San Diego consists of 5, 5-shot groups from the bench at 100 yards.  It's a great venue for trying to discern the best placement of the barrel/forearm on the front rest.

I went to the range today but was so caught up in what I was doing and trying to keep my feet and fingers from freezing I had forgotten to bring my little plastic hammer for pinging the barrel. There will be a next time, however.

Still, I couldn't complain much about the groups today despite the three hours out in 40 degree weather. My rifle seems to like the heavier bullets as this one at 540 gr(Brooks' Creedmoor) did pretty well.
