Steve, you can get a replacement Maynard trigger spring from S & S Firearms.
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
Sorry, but I don't know what you mean by a hammer strut/follower - new term to me - unless you mean the mainspring to hammer link in which case they have them too.

Captain Bob-- If you allow me to offer a point of clarification, I would point out that the trigger spring from S & S (also referred to as the "sear spring" by Maynard) is the correct spring for the Mass Arms Co. produced Maynard action.

Whereas, Steve S. is working with the Stevens/Maynard which was a rim fire "boys rifle" that most likely has a coiled hammer spring, therefore the need for a spring strut, which is nothing more than a short rod that fits into the center of the coil and engages with the hammer.

Hi Steve--

Have you given a look over at Numrich Arms in New York.  They may have what you need.

I might also suggest that you look for a strut and hammer attachment piece from a J.Stevens Favorite action which were switched from flat springs to coiled springs in the later renditions.  I am not saying they are a direct fitment, but if it were me, I would explore that possibility.

Ive tried everywhere.  I found a spring but not the strut. Yes its basically a rod in the spring that touches the hammer. They call it a follower. In a 1911 its a strut, or even mainspring cap

This is what I came up with. I think the part isnt cone shaped. Those would probably be 2 flats on either side, keeping it from spinning. Angle probably 45deg.

Steve --  It's not the end of the World by any means.

Open your Brownell's catalog (if you have one) and visit the page with the springs, both flat and coil, and order yourself the assorted coil springs which your research tells you you're in the ball park with.  They will be longer than what you need, but you know how to correct the length.

Out of the selection you purchase, you may just find both the hammer and the trigger spring sizes (diameter).

Once you have completed fitting the hammer spring, it will be a piece of cake to fab the strut rod !

While doing the project, do a second set of everything for spares.

DONE !

I have a friend who has a family heirloom Stevens Maynard Junior that is missing the same parts.  He would like me to put a liner in the barrel and get it back into firing condition.  Paraphrasing Grant, these rifles were cheaply made of inferior materials.  I'm a little leery of doing the job for this reason and have someone fire it with modern ammunition. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Should be fine with standard velocity ammo as long as it is put together right. I would not use high velocity in it and definitely not hyper velocity. I follow this practice with all my old Stevens. The 44 and 44 1/2 should be good with high velocity but I usually stick with standard velocity anyway.

All the above I agree with, plus I've had much better accuracy with the standard velocity stuff -- no matter who made it.  Still, some standard velocity ammo is better in an individual rifle than others.  If the barrel and chamber are OK, should make a decent squirrel rifle.  Wink
