That is very nice. Am thinking that it must be from the same wood CPA made up for my Hepburn. Looks almost the same. Also a tung-oil finish. Sending mine out for checkering next month.

Argie-
I had CPA do their "standard" checkering on my new one last year-  Fabulous job, clean cut, tasteful-  $300 and a bargain at that!

Might want to slow down on the BLO applications.  If it isn't dried really well, it is easy to get a gooey mess going Angry Cry

yes sir I learned the hard way on another rifle. currently I only have one coat of  BLO on it and I can add another coat anytime as it has been about a week. BLO needs a few days to set. even after it feels dry wait a few days for it to be completely dry. it is good you mentioned it as others don't need to learn the hard way most commercial oil has some hardener's in it and it is not necessary to wait more than a day.

BLO never sets, it just soaks in. The LO that sets is raw, and is used in paints and putty, etc.

Hmmm. I'm coming over yourside! I chequer my own wood, and make the tools to do it with. Wait a bit (quite a bit!) - I'm restoring a 4-bore flintlock oval-bore elephant-gun, stock to be made from a walnut blank and chequered where necessary.

I have the blank and a lot of the original gun.

I shall not be doing too much to it until the weather warms up a bit though. As an old crofter friend used to say: "If I'm spared..."

I think you'd be happy with the job that CPA does.  They did an excellent job on the checkering of my #52.

Chris.
