My CPA stock is in the final stages of applying the finish. I asked Gail for a #4 wood and I must say it is beautiful. I hope to be shooting it by Thanksgiving weekend.

I put on a heavy coat of Daly's  benite and then added 6 coats of Formby's Tung oil. the last coat was BLO it seems to add depth better than tung oil  I didn't have to use steel wool very much as I kept the application pretty smooth. I was told you put one coat of finish on per day for a week, then one coat every week for a month. then once per year forever. now I cant say that is what I will do but will try

Might want to slow down on the BLO applications.  If it isn't dried really well, it is easy to get a gooey mess going Angry Cry

Steve   the butt stock is the sporting varmint forearm is their bench style. I am a bit too old to shoot off hand but didn't want the bench rest stock . CPA really put a nice piece of walnut on it.

yes sir I learned the hard way on another rifle. currently I only have one coat of  BLO on it and I can add another coat anytime as it has been about a week. BLO needs a few days to set. even after it feels dry wait a few days for it to be completely dry. it is good you mentioned it as others don't need to learn the hard way most commercial oil has some hardener's in it and it is not necessary to wait more than a day.

Do what the oldtimers did, after oiling the stock with "BLO",  rub some on a piece of glass. When it's dry on the glass it's dry in/on the stock.     ...MIKE...

BLO will "dry" faster if set in the sun. UV speeds the cure.
