rfd, I hate to say this, but my eyes rolled back in my head after about the third line of your post... I use my e-mail pretty much like I used to use the black phone on the wall, just pick it up and dial.  If I'm going to have to learn a bunch about computer programing to use simple e-mail, I'll be in trouble!

For years I have used Apple/MAC products, so the Windows problems are avoided, but my "open" e-mail accounts on Yahoo and g-Mail are vulnerable through the structure of the accounts themselves.  I don't post my e-mail addresses "in the clear" on this or any other website, but when my SPAM folder contains pieces that reference ASSRA in the title, it makes me wonder whasssupp?

Not a real biggie, just another of life's little irritations!

heheheh!  i hear ya, froggie.  but no "computer programming" required with linux, it's the same as with yer apple pie os.  yer not programming that, are ya?  Cool

spam email with references to people, places and things you'd not expect in a spam email are quite the norm.  anything and everything that's not protected/encrypted in some manner is available to the bad guyz.  ANYTHING you do that's open to the public is accessible to the world.  electronic transmissions are easy to pick up without the sender/receiver even knowing.  welcome to the information age.  that's all there is to know about that.  if you want to keep secrets, use strong encryption, but you won't be encrypting stuff (like the assra forum topics and posts) for public consumption.

years ago i had a bad experience with a windows machine that was hacked and compromised, and i lost a buncha data (MY bad for not backing up).  it was an older machine and i took great joy in sending that desktop tower to computer heaven with a full clip of lead kisses from my dad's ww2 colt 1911 .45acp.   Smiley

Well, they're at it again.  My SPAM filter caught this one with the subject line,

"ASSRA Forum - Cumberland High Wall Action on Ebay"

Looks like they hope something will get through if they include enough teaser words in the title.
