I have been shooting without any wads in the case. the groups are getting smaller but the 1 7/8" group may be the result of the stars being in alignment. my groups so far have been in the 2 1/2 to 3" range. I am 65 yrsold so my eyes may be a limiting factor now (iron sights) what I would like to know is, has anyone included a card wad in the patched bullet against the base? the reason I ask is that my recovered bullets are marked by the paper tail of the patch, and some look like there may be a small tail around the base, wouldn't a card wad the same dia. as the bullet protect the base from deformation, and help keep the base truer and flatter? I know that someone has tried this and may have some results. for some reason the load that I shot today didn't require me to snap the hammer again to open the block, the only difference being that I waxed the bullets prior to loading.  I got enough paper back the last two or three times at the range to determine that cutting the bullet will not be an issue with this load.  the load is 90 grn.s of 1f swiss, droptubed 16" w/the bullet thumbed in about 3/16".  also, my groups seem to have a four or five shot core with the other shots shaped roughly in a U shape around the core, not far away but has happened enough to notice a pattern, my eyes?, my hold?, I do not index, should I start?.    Dave.

100 yds, off of sand bags, no lead sled or other such device.
