Black powder in Lee Perfect Pewder Mesure?

So you aren't suppose to use black powder in a powder measure that can generate a spark. Though from what I can tell, the Lee Perfect Powder Measure that I have is made of mostly plastic and aluminum. Have any of you used this powder measure for black powder?

If it is not a good idea to use this measure, what black powder measure do you recommend and can you find them in the used market?

Thanks

Far as I know, there has not been a documented instance of an explosion of a BP measure.    These warnings are probably generated by lawyers and not engineers.

I use the LEE Perfect measure for Fg Swiss.  It is very accurate once you get the hang of it.

I have not tried any finer granulation powders in it.

Keep on hav'n fun.

i have 4 lee powder measures.  3 have different flavors of smokeless and 1 is now for swiss 1-1/2fg, though i was running goex 2fg and 3fg in it for about 2 years.  obviously i haven't blown myself up with it yet, but as always ymmv.  i wonder how many old lyman 55's blew up their operators when they were loaded with bp.   Cool

The Lee Perfect Powder Measure is my Go To for reloading all my BPCR reloads. I average shooting about 2500 BPCR reloads per year and since I started using the Lee back in 2004 instead of the B&M or Lyman #5 ... have had no negative instances
PS:  Contrary to safe practices ... I smoke my pipe while reloading too!

In one of the articles I read about Fredrick Selous, they were sorting cartridges that had been packed in box of black powder.  An ash from one of their pipes ignited the box.  I do not recall the extent of the damages, but I believe some where scarred for life.   Cry

He mentioned the tremendous recoil when shooting elephant with an 8 bore.   He said it spoiled his offhand shooting for life and he wished he had never used it. Grin

A friend was doing some grinding in his shop.  He had a few "empty" cans of BP on his bench.  A spark landed inside and blew one of the can apart.  No damage was done other than to the ego, but it doesn't hurt to play it a bit safe.

Nope, Captain Black - White.  Been smoking it for years

Look at it this way:  Would you rather read that a Perfect Powder Measure ignited black powder while some guy was smoking his pipe while reloading was the cause or just the BP caused the Measure to melt?  Besides, John Lee and his lawyers would then have to put a disclaimer about using the Measure with BP if it ignited and I didn't smoke a pipe

The pipe though is not always lit.  Some folks always has a tooth pick in their mouth and I have my pipe most of the time

i was sceptic on this  Lee Perfect Measure like all other Lee Products before but for my surprise it measure perfectly.
I load my BPCR with all given granulations and in the other one i got all NC Rifle Loads.
if you know the trick with Lee ...it works ....

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year
