I'm shooting a Mos 208.6 gr spitzer, cast 25:1 - .3225" base D, 1.16O" OAL from a Shilen 28", 14 twist barrel at a 200 yard target. Should I be loading to achieve a (near) specific velocity as measured 12' forward of the muzzle?
Any thoughts or calculations regarding optimum velocity? I'm no math genius and don't "do" ballistics programs, so I've been relying on target results alone.  Can't help but think maybe I'm overlooking something important. Thanks.

My 32-40 likes a 1474 avg. 8ft. from the muzzle with various bullet weights, 195-210. The 33-47 I sold regretfully also liked the same average velocity with a 234gr. bullet.

seems like the 1400s were a favorite of all my single shots using smkless or BP.

Like John my bench gun likes 1470. I have found with spitzer / simi-spitzer bullets somewhere around 1450 is a good place to aim for.

Let the target tell you. One range I shoot 200 is yards other 200 is meters. Bullet needs to go a bit faster on the meter measured range so it arrives super sonic.

200 gr 32 bullet About 1400 fps starting about 200 yards is were a goes sub sonic, few FPS or yards either side makes a difference on impact

You may guess from this my Cronograph has not been out of it's box in years
