BP has @ 1/3'rd the energy per grain compared to smokeless, so knock yourself out.

The Danish 8x58RD was BP loaded with a jacketed bullet for the first 19 years (1889-1908).

Mind you they used a pellet of highly compressed BP (@ 70 grains) that was inserted into the case before it had the neck sized down/formed.
