Bob,
That's very good info. I had the same thing happen to me back in the early 90's but, I was using tin to harden the WW.

I just couldn't get a bullet to cast that had any kind of a band on it. I had no way of testing for it but, my 20/1 bullets cast fine. From what I had read, zink was the only thing it could have been. I can't remember how many pounds I had to throw away but, I never bought any WW after that.

Hi Frank,

Get ready, Lonnie will be gunning for you guys this Saturday coming off that good group last month plus getting a medal at Tacoma Cheesy

I do not remember how I figured it out.   It was long ago, but as I recall that stuff contaminated my pot and mold.  It took a while to get good bullets after I got good metal.  I was using a 10# cast iron Lyman pot back then.  I don't know how much lead I pitched out, but all of that stuff.  I still used wheel weights, but only the ones with a metal clip back then.  Not sure what the criteria for sorting is now, I haven't used them for at least 15 years.  I have been told most WW have zinc now as lead is banned, but I do not know that for sure.  I do know you have to have a smelters license to by scrap lead in WA state now  Angry

Regards, Bob

Bob, that's just crazy. Can you by it mail order still, like from Roto?

I'm sure you can.  But if you go to a scrap yard or a tire store, it is illegal for them to sell the scrap to individuals.  A friend of mine told me this last march.  He casts a lot of RB for muzzle loaders.
