Making 8x58R Cases

To make 8x58R cases:

I trimmed .45-90 Starline brass to 2.274"
I annealed the mouth of the brass.
I first reduced it to .408" diameter mouths with my .40-65 F.L. die and Imperial sizing wax.
I finished shrinking to 8 mm (.321 mouths) with the 8x58R F.L. dies. using short passes with Imperial sizing wax.

I then fire formed them using 16 grains HS6 powder topped with cream of wheat to the shoulder and a foam plug in the neck.

Four cases crushed since I annealed them too much and 10 cases split because they were still too brittle.

Ended up with 86 cases.

They do look a bit nicer than the ones I've been making  from 8x56R.

Thanks guys.

For me the secret was repeated slow steps with the Imperial sizing wax. Being careful to not put too much on.
And I was not able to get good cases untill I went to a two step process of reducing the size. (to .40 then to .32)
And even then cases were wrinkly until I fire formed the cases.

I tried one case without annealing it. It was a total diasater, crinkling and cracking the case.

Try a wrap of electrical/vinyl tape 1/4" wide around base to get .010"-.014" larger base diameter to fit and fire form.

As long as we're on this subject, well sorta, anybody done any of this the 8x58R Sauer?  It's a different critter from this one. Reminds you of a stretched 32-40. It is the German equivalent of same. I've been modifying 9.3X72R Sauer when I can find them.
