Another one followed me home

Since the rain was keeping me from mowing this afternoon, I decided to head over to my local Cabelas (Lacey, Wa) and this guy followed me home.  Overly polished and refinished 1887 vintage HW with the Winchester name totally gone from the tang.  Single set trigger functions well.  Has been converted to .22 rimfire with the modified extractor labeled 32-40/38-55.  Sporting a no name 24" barrel AND a 6x Unertl scope in excellent condition.  And to think this morning I vowed not to but any more rifles this year.  At $700 I could not pass it up.

A few strange features on this rifle.  Whomever installed the scope mounts put them on backwards.  Small one in the rear and large one up front.  There is a 2" wide flat bottomed forend with the mounting screw sticking out (no escutcheon) and the stocks have been fitted with sling swivels.  There is a single screw hole where a front sight could be.  The bore looks to be in excellent condition.

I just picked up 5 boxes of Norma Tac22 from bullets.com. Owned by Grizzly Industrial. One of the shooters at the Tacoma match last weekend used it with good results. Time for a shootout with my accurate Stevens 44.

Considering what the Unertl Small Game is worth, the gun would be very hard to pass up! If it shoots well, it's the buy of the century!

You might go back and consider kissing the fellow for that deal.

I'll pass on the kiss Smiley  They even seemed to know what the scope was worth.  The Gun Library guy said I was buying a $700 scope and getting a rifle for free.  I was totally surprised as they usually over price single shots horribly.

AND IT SHOOTS!

I made it to the range today and tested it with some of the Norma TAC-22 ammo that I bought after seeing it in action at the match last weekend.  This 7 shot 100 yd group measures 1-1/4 inch.  This was with the 6x Unertl as the scope blocks are too low for my 20x Targetspot.  The first shot in the upper right was a transition from shooting some CCI green tag.  Throwing that out results in a 6 shot 3/4 inch group.  Needless to say, I am happy with both the ammo and the rifle.

At Cabelas it may well be a $700 scope! Turned out to be an even better buy at that kind of accuracy!

The same scope ( with the spring) sold for $710 on eBay in January.  The only way I can afford them in when they are on rifles. This is the second scope that I effectively have no money in since the rifles are worth what I paid for the combo

Wonder if that will work at 200?   Cheesy

I will find out next trip to the range. I do plan on adding slightly taller scope blocks so I can try my 20x Targetspot
