Accurate Molds in particular ...
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

This my 4th Accurate mold - 375166 clone for the 38-55.
Cast 100 this morning ... 1:20 - 380 base
Cavity 1 - 326.4 to 326.9
Cavity 2 - 327.4 to 327.9
Had 3 bullets outside of the cavities Bell Curve
All bullets dropped easily - completely filled out @ 750 F - parting lines nearly invisible and perfect bases 'one could shave with"

In the same shipping package was another - a 5 cavity of the 45 Colt 454190.  Nice part too - Accurate 5 cavity molds use the RCBS long handles and so do the single & double cavity molds

John
My 38 mould should get here in a week, I can't wait to try it in the 38/56, getting the 38/56 to shoot is driving me nuts.

Mick, I do believe you are going to enjoy casting with your Accurate.  I've got many vendors molds in the drawers and rate Tom's quality to lathe bore his molds for perfect bullets - Top Notch.  Have fun shooting your 38-56!

Compared to the quality of the 375166 that we had Lyman custom cut and the Accurate 375166 - Lyman's quality is way down the totem pole

Ron, here's some thicknesses for comparison:
* 1/8 ... Ideal
* 23/128 ... Hoch - Baco - Saeco - RCBS - NEI - Pioneer & Paul Jones
* 3/16 ... Accurate - Lyman
* 1/4 ... David Moss

John
My Accurate Moulds mould arrived yesterday and is a thing of beauty, seems a shame to get it dirty. Within the next few days I will get to cast some of the bullets for my 38/56 and try them. If all goes well you need not send me the lock of your hair and the fingernail clippings.
regards.
Mike.

Mick - you have to get it dirty if you want to shoot them 38-56 reloads
Now, here's a plan ... other another for the glass case display! Grin

Seriously - hope you enjoy casting with the new mold as much as I do with Tom's

I agree on the Accurate Molds.  I just cast with my first one yesterday.  I had a custom mold made to duplicate the original arsenal 10.4X47R MM Italian Vetterli bullet.  Accurate doesn't do hollow bases, so I had Tom send the mold to Erik Ohlen for one of his bar inserts for the hollow base pin.  I cast about 150 bullets yesterday afternoon.  Mold performed beautifully. It just might have been the easiest mold break-in I ever did in almost 40 years of casting!  Hats off to Tom and Erik both!

I'll second the Accurate molds. Here is my 35cal combo mold. Casting with this mold is really fun as the bullets nearly jump out of the cavities. Size is dead on for Lyman #2 as requested.

Another Accurate mold came and was cast with today
... the 454250D - 5 cavity, 454190 Colt clone.
Don't do it often but coated the cavities with Rapine Mold Release and it was another pleasure casting about 18 pounds of bullets, especially with a 5 cavity.  Honest Injun - not ONE bullet stuck in the mold.  Just a light tap on the handles bolt, opened the mold halves and each time - 5 bullets dropped onto the cotton towel ... All By Themselves!

How did the bullets look?  Perfect compared to the 454190's with a Lee 6 gang and the Ideal 454190 single cavity ... except the bases were 455 with COWW's instead of 454.  So I skinny'ed them down ... no big shakes  Wink

I had a chance to try out my new Accurate 41-375T mould .409 base band today. I preheated it on the edge of my pot for about ten min. After about ten or so I was casting excellent bullets. Just like my other Accurate mould the bullets drop right out. One thing I noticed with this brass mould is I could put the mould down on the edge of my pot and do something else for 10-15 min. When I start casting again the first bullet come out as nice as the previous one.

I'm very happy with this mould.

Bob most moulds will cast a good bullet if you set the mould down for awile but they generally will not come close to weighing the same. It would be interesting to know the weight difference based on your experiance with that new mould?
