Can someone tell me what the groove diameter is(and maybe twist rate) of these calibers? By that I mean from actually measuring the inside of a vintage rifle barrel- not what is in books. Thank you.

Thank you for trying but I was interested in the .32-40 Remington cartridge. It is different from .32-40 Win.

My #8 Union Hill Ballard in 32-30 measures .315 in the grooves. If you need bore dia I can get that but don't have it committed to memory.

My 32-40 Remington is 1 twist in 18" with a bore of .3065 and grooves of .3125. The chamber is .310 and the original Ideal 32-40 R 150 mould I have casts at .312. Haven't shot it yet to see how it performs.

Are you planning on building something in an historically accurate cartridge ???

Trying to set the record straight after discussions with a lot of people without first hand knowledge. Getting answers to questions that I have always wondered about. They were smart guys back then and we can learn a lot from them.

Ken,  My Hepburn in 32-30   slugs .312 - .308, with a 1:20  twist.  The chamber cast  was about .314.   A bullet smaller than .314 just won't shoot.

You are so right; and they didn't use computers either.
