I'm seeing some beginning to show up in the larger local shops who have leverage with the distributors.  But-----its all cheap bulk stuff now at target ammo prices.  the only target stuff is low end Ely and its got jacked up prices as well.

I think we rimfire target shooters have been well and truly screwed.    I suspect the bulk of production will be in the cheap grades of high velocity mass market 22 rf.   it may be years before they catch up and start producing real target grade ammo.    maybe in time for the next olympics.  I'd love to know how USA Shooting is managing their 22 rf ammo situation.

Don't tell me that considerable production capacity hasn't been diverted to all the super HV stuff--17 Mag, 22 Mag--that can be sold at premium prices.  No shortage of that.

Was there ever much of a shortage of the high-end target grade Eley, Lapua, etc.?  Seems to me that it has always been available in case lots if you went to specialist dealers.

At the gun shows I have listened to people that have hoarded and pseudo panicked and have far more .22 ammo than they'll ever need or shoot up - and they brag about it!!  This is the cause.  When the supply catches up I hope they keep their ammo til it's old and cruddy and misfires most of the time.

I still have an unopened brick of Lightning.  I started hoarding thirty years ago.

I'm a bottom feeding hoarder, heh heh heh. Ha ha ha.   Grin

Over the last year or so $10/box seems to be the threshold for availability, above $10 the supply seems to be ok, below $10 has been bad. I just bought some bricks of Lapua Center X from Champion Shooters (at $10.50/box). Since I only buy target-grade ammo, I've always been able to find something. I think the best ammo below $10/box is either Wolf or SK and this ammo has definitely been in short supply. Last  May, Champion Shooters sold out a shipment of 750,000 rounds of Wolf in three hours. one option is to go to one of the sites and put in a "notify me" request, then you'll be notified when ammo is available. Bruno often accepts back-orders for currently out of stock ammo and will call you when ammo is available.

I went to a local gunshow today and there was a good supply of 22 ammo of the plinking variety. Winchester Xpert hollow point 500rnds loose in the shotgun shell box that you used to get at Tractor Supply for $9.99 were advertized for $75. Remington Thunderbolts were similarly priced. They didn't seem to be moving too fast though.

Did that with Champion's, Midway, Natchez, one or two others last SEPTEMBER.  Not a word since.  Also called couple of times to make sure my info hadn't been lost.

Have also seen similar price gougers at a local show: $125/brick CCI SV last summer, dropped to a "mere" $100 by Oct., but still, no takers.  (I counted the boxes.)  I hope somebody broke into his car or house and stole it all.

It worked for me at Bruno's and Champion Shooters and I got the ammo I was looking for, in one case it took eight months.

I'm seeing more and more available, with lowering prices to boot every week!

Just bought some bricks of Thunderbolt for $25 for plinking and I saw bricks of CCI std velocity for $35-40/brick ... that was running $75-$100 at gun shows in the middle of this dreadedly cold & snowy Winter. Nor'easter US observations ...

I think it's worse this year than it was last year, at this time of year.

I do a considerable amount of 22 shooting and with that always searching for it. Consequently, I'm not finding it but when I do I'm killed by the limits of purchase.

I'm going to have to make some drastic changes in my rimfire shooting activities.

I just checked Champion Shooters and they have a 4 brick limit on RWS ammo, Bruno Shooters Supply doesn't show a purchase limit on their site, but they don't have much in stock anyway.
I just did some testing in one of my .22 Hepburns (Douglas barrel w/Win 52D chamber) and found that at 100 yds there was a slight difference in groups between Wolf Match Target and Lapua Center X, it hated Eley Match EPS (black box) and Midas + was just a bit better than the Lapua Center X. The Midas is nearly 3 times the cost of the Wolf (which I purchased about a year and a half ago). Wow, this gun's like a cheap date!
