Custon Mold Maker?

This is a little bit out of the norm for this forum but I recently purchased a Heavy Round Ball Bench barrel and action and need a .550 diameter diameter round ball mold made. I thought that with the experience on this forum someone might know of mold maker that could cut a mold for me?

If it were me in the same situation, I would contact both Track of the Wolf and Dixie Gun Works.

From what I understand Steve Brooks can make some pretty unusual stuff.  He certainly makes more than what his web site shows.

Hi Richard ----

Pre-cast lead R.B's. are available from Track of the Wolf in 0.550" dia. as P.N. "BALL-550X" @ $9.99/50 plus shipping.

These precast R.B.'s will get you shooting post haste without waiting for a mould to made as your question implies.

Let us know how well it shoots on paper with Swiss 1 1/2 ?

Thanks guys, looks like NEI has the cherry. I contacted Pioneer molds and the biggest that he has is .547 pretty close. Steve Brooks does not make any round ball molds and I know about Jeff Tanner I'm not real excited about a mold that I have to cut the sprue off with some side cutters. Of  course I checked with BA, TOW, and Dixie and a host of other suppliers.

I didn't think about precast balls as I always considered them junk but they would get me going. I don't have the barrel and action yet it was supposed to be shipped today. As for Swiss 1.5 I don't have any but do have a bunch of Goex 2FFG and  I have been eye balling the Olde Enysford 1.5 I would prefer to keep my money on these shores if at all possible.

Sorry Richard for my offense by suggesting less than quality components.  At one time, Hornady produced only swagged R.B.'s from alloyed and certified lead rod stock, well within limiting tolerances.

Gees, muzzle-loaders sure have changed from days gone by when I was in N.M.L.R.A.  Wink

CCM I didn't take your reply as a insult at all most of the precast bullets that I have actually had my hands on were of a very inferior quality. Mold not filled out voids in the sprue hole stuff like that. Back when I was shooting muzzleloaders at Friendship I used Speer swaged balls, I did a lot of muzzle loading shooting  in those days was already a serious caster but I could never make my cast balls shoot as good as the Speer. The Hornady I could out shoot them it seemed to me at the time that they just were not as consistent in diameter and weight.

I am really surprised that this thread started up as much conversation I didn't think that it would get much more that a passing look on this forum. Anyway enjoyed the answers and still looking I don't have the rifle yet anyway and it's actually a barrel and action so I will have fabricate a stock for it and rig up someway to mount that rear sight. But I will post some results when I get it going hopefully all the bullets in one little tiny hole at 100 yards. Five .550 balls in a tiny hole? Guess we'll see!
