Lube: Pan or Pump?

What are people using for lubing 32-40 tapered bullets?
Please explain your choice and if using a pump where to get one. I have cast 10,000+ round balls and bullets in both nose and base pour molds. I have a lyman 450 lube/sizer and have also pan lubed many bullets.
Thank You

I pan lube everything including stop ring bullets. Because it's easiest for me.

I have a Pope lube pump and two RCBS bullet sizer/lubers. Seldom use them........messy.

Pan lubing works well for me. Fast and easy. One size pan fits all my bullets.

Hi,

I pan lube my tapered and straight bullets. I use a silicone baking tray. Stand you bullets up as many as you could fit in the tray. Place the pan in the oven at 200 for a couple minutes to warm the bullets up. Melt your lube in a double boiler and pour the lube in the tray till its just over the top groove on your bullets. After the lube cools just push them out by hand.

Others may do this differently.

I too pan lube for most of my single-shots..except the .22's.   One problem I ran into when trying to lube  the  Ideal Kephart design 257285 was the wide and shallow lube grooves didn't want to stay filled with lube when pushed out of cake base first.

I too, only pan lube. For sharp pointed spitzers, even like pictured. I use a piece of leather that is about 1/8"+ thick to push them out.

Also use the Lyman 450 but am a recent "pan lube convert" for all bullets (all my rifles are single shot). Find it so much faster, easier and cleaner (no excess lube on the bullet nose, etc.) than the lubrisizer that it is one of those "why did it take me so long to do this" type of things. Picked up an electric fondue pot ($15) for the heat source and use an aluminum pot for the lube in a double-boiler configuration and can run as many as 100 bullets at a time at the work-bench.

Pan lube works just fine but a properly fitted die in a hand lube pump works very quickly and very neatly, especially for tapered bullets.

Oldman, if you use a lube sizer with tapered bullets, all the GG's will not be properly lubed.  Pan lube them

I pan lube all of mine and use heavy leather glove to punch out--saves your thumbs!

A FEW of us use dip-lubing.
I find it much less messy and more convenient than pan lubing.  BUT what I do is to use a push through sizer after lubing to size and strip excess lube off.  It also forces lube into every groove firmly.  With my Saeco tapered .40 cal 300 gr size and end up with a non-tapered bullet (which is ok since I don't breech seat in .40 cal.)  You might could try dipping and sizing with a large enough die that would leave a few thou of lube on the narrower part.  Most folks pan or pump and that's ok too.

Tell us about 'dip' lubing. How do you do it? Also, what push-thru die do you use? A couple more pic's would be great.
Thanks.

My setup.  Note that the sauce pan has a 3/16" disk of aluminum under it to disperse the heat evenly.  Kept at low heat.

Pick 'em up, dip and stick to a tray.
