no caliber marking?

Has anyone come across stevens barrels without a caliber marking?  I found a Dst 45 32-40 in a 44 frame with matching sns of 45xx however no 32-40 printed on the barrel.  Has standard roll stamp on top flat.  Barrel doesn't appear to be re blued but I guess it could have been done along long time ago.  Overall condition of gun would not suggest that it happened , with the typical nice rippled muted case coloring.  No need to rehash the 44 frame strength issue.  Any input appreciated.

I have a Sideplate in 32-35 with no caliber marking. I used to own a very early 44 (I forget what it's called, the model between the Sideplate and regular 44) that was in 25-20 with no caliber stamp. And I presently have an ordinary 44 1/2 with a Stevens-Pope barrel and no caliber stamp.

So it would appear from time to time, they said "The heck with it!"  Smiley

Haven't had any 44 or 44.5 that didn't have caliber markings, but have had several Tip Ups that didn't.

Thanks for the input I went ahead and added it to the stable due to the fact it had the original stevens palm rest. Barrel shape wood not the Pope style.  Seems like there has been in a dry spell for affordable schuetzen rifles well at least what I refer to as affordable.

I had a Stevens Pope 0441/2 that did not have the caliber marked on the barrel, it was noted in script on the side of the extractor.

I have a few tip ups and they do not have caliber markings. All my 44's and 44 1/2s do. Will have to take a look at the 2 side plates I have to confirm if they do or don't.
