Most of you know about the Savage Model 71 Favorite Commemorative and then closely followed by the Model 72 which was identical without the commemorative bling. Most of us have seen sort of unusual combinations of features on firearms we do not normally expect on specific models. So, I know that the Model 72 was designated the Crackshot but did not have that written on the gun. And, as far as I know, all the barrels on this model were full octagon. However, for those interested in oddities, I see that G. B. has up for auction #378186728 a Commemorative Model 72 Crackshot. It commemorates the anniversary, or something, regarding the Houston Gun Collectors Association. It has a brass lever and buttplate. The thing about this one is that it does not have a full octagon barrel, it is half and half. And it does have Crackshot written on the barrel along with other extra information because it is a commemorative. It has a special serial number and in this case is 43 of 500 apparently made. It has a "tang" sight (the 72 does not have a tang) and the seller claims this receiver is "longer" than normal. I have not been able to figure out how I can determine from a photo if it is longer than other 72s. Anyway, I am posting this because this is interesting to me and thought others might enjoy looking at it.  The seller has a reserve on it and I am guessing, from the context, he thinks this might be worth a lot of money. It will be interesting to see if it finally sells and for how much.  I am certain this is at least the second time it has been consigned to auction.

That's a new one on me. I know these did not have a tang. One reason I like the Model 30 series. They have a tang and can be drilled an tapped for a tang sight. I have tang sights and globe front sights on both of mine. They dropped the 30 series a couple of years ago and the prices seem to be going up on them as usually happens when things go out of production.
