Lyman tang site

I picked up some old rifle sites on a trade and one of them is a Lyman tang site marked Jan 20/79. It has 1.4375 (as close as I can figure) hole spacing. What rifle would that be for? I also have from the same trade, some older Marbles sites w/o the risers. Are they of much value?

None at all.  To save yourself a trip to the dump, send them to me.

Or, put them on ebay & you'll probably be surprised.

A Lyman tang sight generally is marked on the bottom with a letter . As example the letter P would indicate that is for a Stevens Ideal.  The chart I have came from the Nov-Dec 2005 "Single Shot Rifle Journal" page 48.  Page 46 shows Marble  sight markings. A benefit of belonging to the ASSRA.

Another good source on old sights is Nick Stroebel's book OLD GUNSIGHTS now reprinted with his old telescopic sights book in one volume.  Nick is constantly finding more old material and I hope he will continue to update his book in the future - a good ol' boy too.     James H.

Somewhere I've seen a list of tang sight screw hole spacings in inches for all common single shots.  Thought it was in one of Grant's books, but checked briefly & didn't find it.

The chart can be found on page 589, Grant's " Boys Singleshot Rifles".

Buggybuilder,

The 1.437 is the spacing used on Remington rollers and Hepburn's as well as Sharps rifles.
