All I did was make a flat block/plate. Milled the slot with angles so the sight would fit the dovetail. Then I drilled and tapped it for the sights mounting screw. Then I located and put the two mounting holes on the block for the mounting screws into the receiver. If memory serves me right when I started to make this first one I took to much off of the width and the sight wasn't going to be in the center of the receiver and would throw my windage way off. So had to start over but this should give you the idea.

Many thanks!
That gives me a very good idea of what to aim for (no pun intended...).

You ought to call Steve Earle he makes all sorts of adaptors, No good reason your Anschutz sight can't hang on the Martini action. Steve has some adaptors that hang the sight off Unertl barrel scope blocks that could work.

You know, I don't know why I didn't think of Steve Earl myself!

I was a lot slower learning that good sights are pretty much the top priority... I did evolve to that thinking EVENTUALLY.. it just cost me more time and money than it should have if I was a brighter sort of guy.   Cheesy

Thanks again!

For a photo of the set-up being discussed, i.e., the use of Anschutz rear sight with a Martini action rifle, with the sight mounted on the rear scope block (Lyman/Unertl) and cantilevered out over the top of the breech block, see the following.  The eye relief is adjustable as much as three inches as a result of the two dove tailed piece telescoping, one on top of the other.

Yes, you are correct, the rifle shown is a Ruger No.1 falling block.  However, I transfer the shown rear sight from the Ruger No.1 directly to the rear scope block of my B.S.A. Martini International and make the necessary eye relief adjustment.

The scope block mounted cantilever adapter piece is available from CPA Rifles at a cost of approximately $100 (price in 2010).

See:  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);

LOOK at the "Rear Sight Adapter for Anschutz"

Very slick!
That just became my leading candidate of a plan for the rear sight!

Thank you for posting the picture.

   Hi Paul,
               Glad to contribute .  .  .

Photo No. BSA_016 shows the Anschutz rear peep  sight positioned almost all the way to the rear of the lower dove tail piece which CPA furnishes.  As I mentioned above, there is a good 2 1/2" to 3" of front to back adjustment for whatever eye relief works best for most any shooter.

I also use the CPA Adapter/Anschutz Peep arrangement with my CPA/Stevens 44 1/2 Rifle for "Iron Sight" classes.

Paul,   would it be appropriate at this point to say "  Eureka  "

Sorry, I couldn't resist that follow up after seeing your hometown signature.

Col Native on this forum hangs his Warner sight on two CPA's Rim and Center Fire with that CPA adaptor.  He says the sight settings repeat perfect when switching

I think Steve Earl makes it for CPA

Bill,  I always thought so, but out of respect, never asked either Steve or Gail.

Neal Rice has made this adapter for several years for Redfield, Warner, etc.  If you have scope blocks, they work well.

Kurt -- Doesn't Brownell's retail that adapter base ?  Maybe something similar, if not Rice's work product.

Kurt's idea is better. Proven product that allows access to the breech for loading.

I maybe wrong but I thought the Martini III was more of a prone rifle to start. Long and low check. I put a 5/8 rod on  my stock to use a anschutz hook butt plate, but stock had to be shortened for position shooting (or just offhand for me). JMO
