What can you do to keep a Ballard firing pin from flying away into the grass if you disassemble the block to clean it at the range?    Grin

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Buy two and keep one in your box. I have found that if I have a spare handy it scares the one in use enough so it doesn’t break or get lost.

You really don't need to disassemble the block at the range.  Better to do it in the shop under conditions under better control.

If you insist on it, have a towel to catch loose parts and a magnet to find them when they stray.

Large clear plastic bag. Take it apart inside the bag and you won't loose the small parts. We all know that if something is spring loaded it can vanish while you are looking at it and then you hear a small clink clear across the shop. If your outside the chances of finding a small part that is launched under spring pressure is harder than finding the needle in a hay stack, sitting on a hay stack may produce said needle.

A pillow case does double duty as a wiping rag.

I guess maybe it depends on the ballard, but my firing pins come out with out dissassemling the blocks and are not spring loaded..

Duct tape a bunch of cow magnets to a garden rake.

Do it on a Paved parking lot. Preferrably Asphalt that still has a good black surface color and no pot holes. Remember "Preperation H" will not cure Assphalt. FITZ. Grin
