Semi-inleted stock

The story:
In 84 I bought a thick side hiwall from Jerry Barnett, he charged me $300. It was in 219 zipper imp. I restored it to a schuetzen rifle had DST installed, #3 oct. barrel chambered for 32-40, Mike Stevens soul site, beautiful color case receiver. Is it accurate? My 14 year old nephew won the junior shoot at the '95 Grand American in Desoto Ks with a perfect 250. I haven't fired it in 20 years.
The problem:
The builder talked me into a combo stock, good for bench & off hand. Read between the lines, I don't find it good for either.
The solution:
I've decided to restock it. Where do I get a nice semi in leted traditional stock? lot of drop for off hand only.
Thanks Mike

Mike,
You could do worse than try here :-

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);

Have a look around his website and if in doubt give him a call he also does original looking butt plate screws at a very reasonable price Friends of mine who have dealt with him say he's straight and good to deal with. He even has a tutorial on his website telling to how to inlet your stock and forearm. All his wood is semi inletted for your action but you have to carry out the last fitting yourself.

Good luck,

Harry

CPA has a very good selection of off hand style Winchester 1885 stocks.

CPA is currently duplicating a blank for me, a close friend just had one done for himself and it turned out very nice. Both of them are the special sporting variety, I also picked up a Win.Large Swiss butt plate from them as well for my butt stock.

I took the hiwall to the range Sunday, I used 20 yr old cast & lubed 203gr Barnett bullets. I shot very well. I still don't like the stock, but at todays prices, I doubt if I could afford wood like this again, so I will leave it as is.

You might just be better served to change the comb some to put it back into proportion and refinish the wood. You would be hard pressed to meet or exceed that exceptional piece of wood.
