Martini Cadet questions

Once more I have a "project".
A Martini Cadet complete action, and a thick receiver wall B.S.A. stripped receiver with some nice wood on it.
I like the easy cleaning hole at the rear of the B.S.A. but... it has the cross-pin hole to lock the barrel in place, and I think that may make the action too weak for the caliber I want to go to, .357 Max.
The Cadet action group does fit in the B.S.A., other than the extractor being too thick.

Not sure exactly where that cross pin is located so can't comment on that part.  I can say that I have a Cadet converted to .357Max, works great.  The only problem I encountered was the nose profile of a RD359170 gave me a slight chambering problem, whereas the long nose profile of the RD359190 slides right in.  If you like the cleaning rod hole in the rear of the receiver you can make a tool with a drill bit soldered into the end that slides down the barrel and gives you a perfectly centered hole in the receiver.  Personally I just use the barrel of a click type ball point over my cleaning rod held against the muzzle to prevent crown damage.  It's cheap, too.  We like cheap and effective.  GW

It's a tapered pin and part of the barrel shank is grooved to lock the barrel in place.
Anyone have a spare pin???

The pin has a non-standard taper.  I had one of those actions, but ended up having the hole welded closed and making a non-takedown (.22 LR) out of it.  Not sure whether it would be advisable to turn that action into a .357 Max.

If you like the cleaning rod hole it can be drilled in the cadet action. The takedown BSA action will work fine with the .357 Max with no problems.

When I did a 357 Max on a cadet I had to relieve the top of the bolt some so the cartridge would go in the chamber.

I do seat mine out quite a bit to create more powder room.  Don't have the length figure in front of me.  I did notice that the nose profile of the RD358170 required deeper seating than the RD358190, the 190 is what I settled on 'cause it groups the best.  Didn't want to alter the breech block.  GW
