I can start casting again later once I decide which bullet I like.
vol717 don't waste your time ... the SAECO 470 bullet is your bullet of choice and the mold to buy.
Bill Bagwell, a BPCR match shooter has tested the bullet at his home 400yd range and his wife Sidra won the Ladies Mid Range Championship at Raton 3 years ago with the 470.  I use the bullet and it is accurate also to the Ram line at 500 meters

Load it with 56 grains of KIK 2f or Goex Olde E' FFg. The SAECO 640 is also my 'go to' Chicken bullet. 57 grains of KIK FFG or Old E'

Here's a couple of top quality bullet casters in Montana. Have used their products for many years now.
1.  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
2.  Montana Cast Bullets, (406) 522-8614  ask for Ron.
Ron's been a BP cast bullet user with BPCR's for years n' years.  A regular at the Quigley Match each year in MT.

Beyond a doubt he knows his stuff!
Hope this helps, outsidebear

John Boy-I assume you meant the Saeco 740, I couldn't find a 470.

Elijah, indeed I did mean the SAECO 740.  Sorry for the mistype.
I made a batch of 100 yesterday, 1:16 alloy.  They weighed 421.4gr to 421.7gr and the base diameters were dead nuts 0.407 all around

I have the Saeco 645 and if that one is as good it's a winner for sure. I may have get the mould after some testing.

I'll have to try KIK. Today I loaded that bullet(#740) with 58 gr of Swiss 1.5 and a .060 Walter's wad and it wasn't quite enough powder for the 40-70SS. I had to go up to 62 gr to get the bullet seated where I wanted it with zero compression. That charge was perfect for seating the bullet with about half of the first grease groove showing-just right for this rifle as it begins to lightly engrave the drive band.
