Trapdoor Model 1888 front band removal?

Ya know, I KNOW I've done this before, but I don't remember the trick.  How do you get the front band over the bayonet retaining latch?  The latch doesn't seem to depress enough to quite allow the band to clear.  I could drive out the cross pin in the latch block, but I doubt that's the intended method.

I've got an '88 with about 95% of the original finish, which seems to be uncommon for '88's, and I especially don't want to screw it up!

Looks like I found an answer.  Apparently the bands DON't come off over the bayonet latch.

Per Dick Hosmer:

The M1888 RRB, because the bands do not come off, requires a slightly different technique in that the tang end has to come out first, so that the bayonet latch housing can be slipped forward off the stock tenon. After working the bands as far onto the latch as you can, fully remove the tang screw, and invert the gun, keeping your hand wrapped around it. If it doesn't come out, you'll have to open the breech and use the block as a handle. If this is the case, be VERY careful to pull it STRAIGHT out.
