Beautiful Stevens. I am curious as to how you got the history on the 47? Factory records are non existent to my knowledge.

The history just jumps out at you when you examine the rifle.  Color case is the same as other Stevens/Savage post WWI rifles I have owned--can't be mistaken for the pre-WWI color case.  Barrel stamp is the one Stevens used after taken over by Savage.  Barrel is numbered to match the number on the bottom tang.  Barrel has Savage proof mark as well as usual Post War Stevens stamp..  Forearm is clearly a replacement made to fit the new barrel as it is in the same style as the buttstock but clearly from a different blank and checkering, while similar, is not, upon careful examination, quite identical.  I have seen one other pre-1917 Stevens that was modified by Stevens in the early 1920's.  They are uncommon and I suspect that Savage did not offer this service  for very long.

You're right--it is a shame that there is not more documentation available available on Stevens.  Most of what has been written is simply digested from Stevens catalogs and, as in the case of my Model 47, from examination of surviving rifles.  A real shame that there are no factory records available as in the case of Winchester.
