Don't know which pope's army this belonged to.  Found it in the papal museum in Castle St. Angelo.  It is a Remington-Nagant  ca.1867

It is (not joking) a Papal Remington.  There is also a Papal Remington cartridge, which I am told is just another name for our .50-70.
