I have been shooting ML's since 1980. I would highly recommend against it. Of course it is your head and appendages that you risk, not mine.
I have always got the accuracy I need with real BP and can shoot my loads all day with out wiping between shots.

I shot muzzle loading slug guns for about 5 years. I tried duplex in it and did well but, my only problem was that the rules didn't allow it so, I wasn't scored.

I can only recommend it in the following type rifle.

1. Modern, crome moly or SS barrel

2. Closed breeching with a screw in insert containing a CF primer and firing pin.

I shot RB muzzle loaders for about 10+ years and know that a lot of the barrels were made with easy cutting steels (11xx & 12xx series) that I wouldn't consider safe with even BP.

Build one as above and I would consider it safe.

Why would one want to do that? If you want to play with duplex loads, why not get a breechloader? With modern primers, I'm not sure I see much reason even then. If you want to mess with loading like that, do me a favor and stay away from any range where I am shooting.  Wink

Read the warning on the barrel.  Stick to black or equivalent.  That's why the warning's on the barrel.  But like the guy says, their your fingers and eyes.

Have to agree with Frank, it may work may not work gun may be safe may not be

Reason we shoot is to compete I don't know of any muzzleloader match that allows Duplex, for good reason.

I've heard of some in the long range muzzle loading community duplexing with some FFFg under the larger grained powder that is the bulk of the load. I suppose they do that for better/quicker ignition. It probably doesn't help to reduce fouling.

I do recall that Ned Roberts spoke (in one of his Book's) the use of a few grains of Kings smokeless in his load to promote a cleaner bore and better ignition!!  I think this was in his "Cap Lock" book but I think this could be a recipe for disaster.. If it ain't broke,,,,,, Shocked

Best not read Ned Roberts as a loading manual more than one "tale" good reading not the best information.
