Looking good, Whitey.  What caliber?  What did you end up doing for screws?

Very nice indeed Whitey, very nice. If you do need screws the thread type will almost certainly be 'British Association' or simply BA threads as they are known here in England. They were widely used throughout the British gun industry right from their introduction.

The specifications for the various thread BA sizes are on the www. Taps and Dies are still available here in Britain from model engineering suppliers and will be considerably cheaper than buying 'specials' made in the USA.  Cool

That's the first octagonal barrel I have ever seen that was flared towards the action as round rifle barrels are.  It's going to be difficult to fit a fore end to that. lol.  Undecided

That's looking real nice, Whitey!  Like what you've done with it so far.

Harry,  not real hard to fit a forend to these, actually I think they're easier than a round one.  Cut the primary barrel channel for the thin part, then lay the barrel in place, scribe the side lines, and cut the flared octagon part.  Then, spot it in with inletting black just like a round barrel.

If you have a mill, use a 45 degree router bit cutter to do the rough cutting, you can get it within a few thousandths and then finish up with chisels and scrapers.

Dave,

Thanks for the tip, I don't think I'll be trying one like that myself. I like octagonal barrels to be straight. A tad heavy for a .25 calibre round like Whitreys though, but not for the earsplitten loudenboomers I like.  Grin

Hi Whitey, glad to see you're still making good stuff. After last year with the wifes health situation, I got WAY behind. Feels good to make stuff again. Give a shout when you can. Been too long.
