A great picture of the San Diego group at their September match. Steve Adams photographer.  Russ is holding a very ornate Werndl schuetzen rifle in 9.5X47R by Johann Springer. Al Sledge is holding the Tom Nichols trophy which he won. Fred Nace holding a nice Zimmerstutzen rifle. Eric Keel holding his Kopicus percussion schuetzen rifle.

L to R, Chris Jarvis Sr., AL Sledge, Jack Farmer, Russ Hooks, Ron Welch, John Thiele, Joe Feldman, Chris Jarvis, Bob Tyler, Fred Nace, and Eric Keel.

Is there a minimum age requirement to be in that group? Undecided

I've got friends and family in San Diego County, and I've thought it would be fun to look up that group. Sounds like a lot of shooting activity down there. Somehow my grandkids have other designs on my time when I'm there.

Kermit if you plan to shoot with the group in the future try to make their Octoberfest. It is their biggest event of the year and you will receive a shooting medal just for showing up. They are a great bunch of fellows to be around and will welcome you with open arms. They are very dedicated to the sport of Schuetzen. Some of the group makes the yearly trek north to shoot our ISSA Regional in May. They bring their Zimmerschuetzen's along and put on an evening offhand gallery event for those who would like to shoot it and I must say it is a real hoot.

I'm going to be down there, but a week too late. Dang. Another year.

Did you notice the tables in the background, Biggi?  Looks like a Bavarian beer garden, does it not?
Hmm, reminds me of pretzels.  And beer. Roll Eyes

For sure I noticed this "typical Bavarian beer-garden furniture".   Wink

Just thought, if it would be possible to serve pretzels, roasted pork with dumplings and cold beer in our Bavarian one-liter-glass-buckets.

Many of our ranges forbid all spirits on the premises.  We are a  pious society. Beer is bad and we might go to hell.  Grin  At the McGowen Creek range in Springfield OR, I used to keep a bottle of hootch under the sink in the clubhouse kitchen.  Strictly forbidden you know.  Roll Eyes

Think the San Diego range and its beer garden rife for beer and pretzel vendors?  Hmm? Have never been to San Diego. Hear its sunny there in December. Maybe you recalculate your US travel plans, Biggi?

Biggi, the bar picture was taken at Swede’s in Raton, it sure would be nice if you and Joe, as well as some of your Bavarian friends could make it to Raton for the ISSA match in August. And by the way, the San Diego Club is having their three day Oktöberfest Match on the forth weekend in Oktöber with lots of schützen shooting, bratwurst, beer (not simultaneously) and of course lots of schützen gemütlichkeit! Wink

Oh you know that it is easy to shoot with a beer in the brain. You were in Bavaria and Austria, and you have seen the guys drinking wine and beer during the match. And what happened? Nothing! Its quite normal to drink a bit during a match. Nobody drives it crazy, no murder, no victims at the range.

BTW: Nobody would visit a match here, if it would be forbidden to drink alcohol!    Huh

Maybe much more shooters in US would visit matches, if it would be allowed to have a beer at the range. What da ya think?  Roll Eyes

Bob, I would like to see some of your larger traditional matches. But you know that we have our match season from March to October and so I think it is not possible to persuade a Bavarian shooter to go for a summer match to US.

Plus, we cannot take with us our rifles, too difficult nowadays to bring a rifle back and forth. Its a pity!  Huh

Surely our club is not the only one in the US with restaurant and bar! Beer, wine, mixed drinks, and even fairly decent food. Prime rib Friday nights, a dance floor, live music...

We even have facilities for shooting!
