Leatherwood Hi-Lux William Malcolm Rifle Scope

Does any one here have any experiance with these scopes. I am going to mount it on a Quigley sharps 45/70, with a 34" barrell. Just wondering how durable they are. They look like they could get bent fairly easy unless they are thicker than I am thinking.

Thanks a lot for any info

Scopes have very good optics and are very clear, mounts are trash, if you want to set and forget they are OK, I have 3 of the short ones for hunting rifles, 2-3x and one 6x, I like the 3x scopes better for the field of view for hunting. It takes awhile to get them adjusted even on a hunting rifle, the one on my low wall 22 K-Hornet seems to stay in place the other on a 25-20SS moves around some and had to re-tighten the adjustment screws, finally loctited them and now they stay put.

I have the long on my Sharps and a short one on my 1885. The scope itself and the optics are fine. The adjustable rings are trash. Totally non-repeatable.

I made a new Unertl type mount for the short which works great. I plan on making on for the Sharps rifle at some point.

I remember your article, Roy. Just looked again.

What I absolutely cannot understand is why Leatherwood/Hilux seems to not give so much as a rip about the repeated reviews that their scopes themselves are quite good while the mounts--what REALLY matters--are unusable junk. Isn't the Buffalo Arms DZ/Leatherwood combo HIGHER in price than the MVA B5?

If their Chinese subcontractor can make a quality scope, there's no reason the mounts cannot be of similar quality. I see it as "leave us alone, enough people are buying that we don't need to change anything."

Anyone watching the prices of Unenrtl-Lyman-Litschert scopes on E-Bay should know the market is there. It just has to be quality. MVA seems to do it. It's possible.

Totally agree. Making a good set of mounts wouldn't be difficult at all.

Bet they sell plenty of them to the want to be Sniper Rifle crowd. Chinese only make things good enough to sell, no better.
