Wyoming Armoury 1885

I saw an ad in the latest BPCR News magizine for the new Wyoming Armory 1885.  I think I remember hearing that these rifles are going to be identical internally to the originals.

I like my C. Sharps 1885's quite a bit, but it sure would be nice to have a brand new thin sided "original" 1885 with double set triggers.

Chris.

While my C.Sharps HW is a 'thick side', they also offer the 'thin-side' receiver, as well (my BPCR silhouette partner shoots one). To the best of my knowledge, the C. Sharps is also a faithful to the original reproduction. That said, my .22 rimfire LW was built at the Wyoming Armory by Keith Kilby and gets rave reviews by me and most of my fellow competitors for both its accuracy and terrific fit & finish. Have posted a couple of pic's in Post #4 of the Single Shot Rifle Picture sticky at the top of this forum. You cannot go wrong with either.

I talked to Steve Garbe at the Quigley and he told me that the new 85's that they were making were rough machined from billet by MVA. Then Wyo Armory was doing the finish machine work and the rest along with assembly.  IIRC, the starting price was $2900.  They hope to build about 25 a year.  Bob

Bob, did he say where they were getting the barrels from?

Thanks,

Chris.

Best to call and get it direct from them.  I believe you can specify barrel makers for a fee.

That agrees with my discussions with them about building a rifle last year. The 1885 Low Wall that Kilby built has a GM barrel and in our discussions on building a BPCR rifle he suggested another GM barrel, but stated that it was my choice.

25 a year, I guess that is more than McGowen is making.

Like most gunsmiths of any quality, Wyoming Armory is likely quite busy. And, they do not have a secretary/receptionist to do the e-mail stuff. Several of the gunsmiths I know do not give out their e-mail address, and a couple have told me that they do not have e-mail at all as it is a "time sink" they cannot afford. If you have questions, pick up the phone and call (if you are still paying for long-distance you need a more modern phone plan). But, I have to admit, if Wyoming Armory is going to list an e-mail address as a point of contact you would think they would respond to same. I always call, as I did last week to arrange for some work.

The three email addresses I see are shooters. Maybe they are at Raton or some other shoot away from email access?

Well shame on them.

When we finally get the BPCR silhouette scores from Raton this past week am guessing we will see Steve Garbe's name near to the top. Same for Keith Kilby's for the rimfire silhouette.

Garbe shot well in the Iron Sight match (hasn't shot Silhouette at Raton since '05), but didn't win, that honor went to Brian Chilson. He was showing off one of the new Wyoming Armory High Walls and had an action there as well. The base price for the HW is $2995, for a single trigger, straight grip action gun. Add in a pistol grip, double sets, nicer wood and you're at about $4k. FYI, Steve shot one of his old HW's in the match. Also, I didn't see Kilby at the .22 match or his name on the scoreboard.
Point of interest; Chilson shot the .22 match and found out how challenging the match is - he managed to shoot a measly 3 rams on the first day and 0 chickens on the second.... Brian is always good-natured and unphased, so he'll be back next year to do better. .22 match results are posted on 22BPCRA.org site.

Dropped by the Wyoming Armory for a bit yesterday (spent most of the day drooling over the single-shot diplays at the BBHC museum). Keith told me that their High Wall is the only one made today that is an exact copy of the original flat-spring gun. The one they have on display is very nice.
