New guy's newest rifle

I recently traded for a Norwegian Rolling Block. According to the markings on the barrel, it has been rechambered from 12.7x44R to .50-.348 Lugnet. .50-.348 is the same as .50 Alaskan which has a 2.1'' long case. I measured the chamber, and it's around 2.25''. I just got some Cerrosafe to do a chamber cast so I'll know for sure. The forearm had a coating of polyeurethane over some old stain. The butt had been stripped, so I stripped the forearm and used steel wool to remove the stain. I then used Dark Walnut Danish Oil to stain the Arctic Birch furniture, which isn't a straight grain, nor does it darken a whole lot. The end result is an interesting iridescence, it changes colord as you change viewing angles. The complaints I have with it are a trigger pull that takes both hands and a rear sight without any windage adjustment. I'd like to replace the rear sight leaf with an extended rail that would support an adjustable peep sight near the receiver. It will take a bit of research and engineering, but I don't want to do anything that would not be reversible. Anyway, enough rambling, here's the pics...

That's a very nice looking RB with the refinnished stock Smiley

How long is the barrel and what does the rifle weight?

Looks good! The rifling peeking out on the muzzle picture looks good and deep!

I really like the light wood and the contrast with the dark metal. Nice job!

I noticed the rifling peeking out from the muzzle-end too.

That is nice looking! I also would be interested in knowing the length of the barrel.  Regarding "trigger pull that takes both hands" My first Trapdoor was like that.  It turned out that the tumbler had a broken notch and the sear had a burr on it (probably happend when the notch broke).  I replaced the tumbler and honed the sear and now trigger pull is acceptable.

The trigger can be fixed by using the spring sold at Kenn Womack's site, here's the link:

usually will give less than 3 pounds on a military rolling block.

I'm not unbiased, I make them, have made a couple of thousand over the years.  They work.

Barrel length is 37.5''. I haven't weighed it yet, but heavy enough that it should help tame some recoil. I thinned out the hammer and trigger springs with a flat file, and it helped the trigger pull some. I need to work on the trigger spring a little more.
