32-40 load

Print Post
I have a .32-40 mould that I would like to start using.
I will breechseat a 190 gr. spirepoint bullet.
NO gas checks
I would like to use IMR 4227 preferably, but I do have 4759.
Can anyone out there help me out with a starting point?
Thanks

BB:      14.5 gr of either 4227 or 4759 is considered the "standard" load for the 32-40.  4227 meters better.

14.5 is a good load but, you might want to start at 13.0 of 4227 and work up to it in 1/2 gr increments, looking for the most accurate load.

12.2 of 4759 (20 gr BP volume) with pistol primers is a old time, standard 32/40 load. 12.5 gr 296/H110 is another modern one.

BG PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you some test results using different primers and a new powder by Alliant if you would like to try something different that myself and some others out this way are having great success with. The powder is a ball powder thus it is very user friendly as well.
