What's the best type of pan to use for pan lubing cast bullets.

   What about using a non-stick baking pan?

     Not happy using a pyrex dish that I have used.

Any plain metal pans I can find ...8.15x46R bullets - 182gr ... in one pan and no break or cracks in the cake

I have read & re-read Steve Garbe's article in BPN magazine, about his way of pan lubing bullets.  There are a couple of problems with the article.  #1 He uses a large coffee can to hold the water.  The metal coffee cans haven't been made in years.  So much for that!  #2 He also uses a metal pie pan.  I just got back from Walmart.  No such thing as a metal pie pan anymore, unless you want one made from disposable aluminum foil!  So I ended up buying a couple of non-stick metal cake pans, and for my can to hold the water, I found an old gallon paint can that cleaned up nicely.  I'm planning on pan lubing some Gunn Modified 45 cal. bullets that are tapered from the base to the forward driving band, that is if everything goes well, and the 45 bullet casting will take place this Saturday.      Tim

Tupperware sandwich size plastic boxes. Nice and flexy to get the firm lube out.

Cast iron skillet for me too.  Has a pour spout about the right size and has a lid that can snuff out flash fires.  Little draft to the sides lets the cake go easy

I heat it with a Craftsman hand held heat gun just outside my shop door.

Hello, I picked up a set (3) of 6" dia. flat bottomed pans with tapering sides...at wally world.    They look to be teflon coated.  These are nice for smaller batches, or experimental lube concocting..and they fit neatly inside a larger dia. pan as a dbl. boiler.

I use what JohnBoy uses and bought it where Frog said to get it! And I am not sure what part of country clasicchecker is in, but All I but coffee in is metal cans. I need to can for utilitarian purposes!

I love the pan lube. very fast and very effective.

You probably know this, DON'T microwave your lube to melt it. Not sure what happens in that process but it DOES break it down some how.

I use a 9 x 6 x 2 inch rubbermaid  drawer organizer,  holds 60  - 90 bullets depending on size.   I nuke my lube in the microwave until it melts and pour away.  I just have to be patient and wait until the lube pulls away from the sides.     Don't know if the microwave would be recommended for all lubes,  but mine has beeswax,  soywax and tallow.   So if I get hungry on the range,  I could eat the lube.  :-0
