System AYDT rifles

I picked up a very nice German target rifle a system AYDT that is very old, proofed with black and then reproofed with Nitro. No AYDT marks on the thing anywhere with what looks like a new bore. I purchased this as a fixer upper knowing the action and bore were good. But the stock is a different story. I plan on using acurglass and bedding it all in to tighten it up as it has shrunk away from the action.
I am enclosing a picture of the action for some help, it is missing 1 screw in the top tang just below the rear sight base. and in a different picture on the web I found the same action with the screw in  place threaded in from the bottom. I have no clue as to just what the screws purpose is or what it is holding. Any members have one of these that know what it is for please let me know.
Thanks
Mike

And the screw hanging down from the tang is not correct, it should be a large wood screw. Here is a picture of what it should look like

Mike, since the trigger plate detaches from the action and stock, the wood screw in the top tang is to retain the stock with the action when on the workbench.

A screw and washer hold the stock to the action at that point Mike. From the bottom, just behind the rear sight boss.

Joe and David, thank you both. Here in a couple of days I need to sketch with deminsions for the rear sight base ans send my front sight so a new blade can be fitted. With the barrel in as nice condition as it is I think it may burn the barn down on the range. THe butt stock is about plain jane butt ugly, even has a knot in it so after it gets fitted really nice off it goes for duplication.

All Aydts are not the same! The majority of the actions (not all!) were made by Haenel who also produced complete rifles. They also sold actions to small, specialist gun makers who produced custom rifles.

Hi Fred, I think mine was a small shop rifle. I can't get to it right now but I know there is no Haenel makers name on it anywhere. They are still in business in Germany and still making these rifles too. But they wee located in East Germany so we did not hear from them for year's. You can order a brand new one but the price is rather steep, and they sell accessories such as front and rear sights too.

Here is a link to the Alfred Schilling company who makes the Aydt rifle now, I thought it was Haenel but it is not.
