32-40 original Hepburn (Read 4034 times)

	32-40 loads have probably been discussed many times on this forum, but I am new here. I have acquitted an original Hepburn in 32-40 and I am curious as to starting black powder loads for it. I notice that buff arms has the brass, but wondering about primers, powder (3ff?)' and bullet.( grease or paper). Opinions are solicited. Jwl

	I'm sure that your research has shown that there were several 32/40 cartridges, 32/40 Rem, 32/40 Ballard, and 32/40 Bullard and they are all very different. Your rifle may well be the Rem cartridge. I think Hepburn's are "cool' have fun with your new toy. ledball

	Do a chamber cast to find out which 32-40 you have. The thing is, it's dimensions could be off from "SAAMI" specs. Work with the chamber you have. Also slug the barrel as those dimensions could also be off.

	It is my understanding that the 32-40 Remington is actually a .30 caliber, not a .32 caliber so it would be best to check this out also. MJS

	I have a late manufacture Hepburn in 32/40 B/M = Winchester. Very accurate with smokeless. Havent used much BP in it. Who needs the headache and expense? Crazed gun cranks, that's who! Might shoot okay, might shoot excellent. If you have the 32/40 W chamber I can share my load info. Have made good progress with BP in the 32/40W the last couple years. Joe.

	32-40 B/M= Winchester BLASPHAMY B = Ballard M=Marlin How can one say such things.... I do concede that Winchester copied the Marlin design for the 32-40 and put their name on it...... Don

	At least they didn't try to put a WCF on it. I'm sure that the 32/40 B/M sold a aweful lot of '85 and '94's for Winchester, too. Frank

	What's the marking on the barrel's bottom flat in front of the forearm? This may give a clue as to which .32 it is.
