The depth of the chamber is 3mm and the bore is definitely .38

3mm seems very short indeed! The 38, is it .358 or .377 or something close or entirely different? (was the 3mm a typo??) You have me very curious now!

Could you mean 30mm or 3cm?  That would make more sense, since it works out to about 1.181"...

David,

that would make more sense. If it were, and combined with something around the .358-365 range (going from a guessing memory here) a .38 long sounds real close and they did make a lot of these in that round. IIRC. Cheesy

LWB,

If you are measuring using metric then if it were to be a .38 long type round you should be getting just a shade above 9mm i would think as far as diameter.

Ballards may be weaker,

Is that measurement perhaps the rim thickness and not the chamber depth?

Marlinguy, I think a rim thickness of 3mm would be a bit extreme...that works out to .1181"...darn near 1/8" for those who use a tape measure to figure out gun parts!  (When I was at my former employer, I did have folks call up needing information, and that was the most sophisticated measuring device they owned!   Roll Eyes Lips Sealed)

I looked at the measurements again with the tools I have and as nearly as I can tell the chamber depth is 1 3/16 inches and the bore diameter is 3/8  of a inch. If this does not make sense then I quit.

We're getting somewhere now.  3/8's of an inch is .375.  I believe that is the bullet (and case mouth) diameter of a 38 rim/centerfire. Inch and 3/16's length of case should be 38 Long (I think) this used a heel bullet of around 147 grains. Take a look at the breech block to see if it's rimfire or if it's centerfire. Smiley

Will .357 case fit the chamber? It might be too short.

.38 Long Centerfire...case length is 1.03", but a heeled .376" bullet would require a longer chamber before it tapers into the throat.  Loaded length 1.45", this is per Donnelley's Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions.

I have anold Ideal tool. I think it was the number 8 model, in .38L that throws a hollow base bullet just for such an occasion! Getting the brass to fit SHOULD be a matter of trimming something else to length!

You may have yourself a shooter there. Probably not match grade but possibly minute of squirrel! There is not much better to me than reviving a classic and putting it to use as it was intended. Great feel! I would be willing to throw a few slugs for you from my mold the next time I cast. I would cast them VERY soft so they expand to fill the bore on firing. Let me know!  Cheesy
